No Joy For The GOP – And It May Get Worse

By VDARE:
There’s no joy in the conservative/ Republican MSM/ blogosphere after Super Tuesday. The GOP is obviously profoundly divided, with little enthusiasm and the marked tendency to break along quarrelling tribal lines (Huckabee gets Southerners, Romney gets the Mormon-tinged Intermountain West) that I’ve noted before. American political parties are very hard to kill off, but the vital signs here are unmistakably not great. Thanks a lot, Dubya.

This matters, because even VDARE.COM’s Democrats are deeply pessimistic that their party will embrace patriotic immigration reform.

It’s possible, of course, that the GOP nominee may have learned from his experience in the primaries how powerful the immigration issue is, and exploit it in the general election. McCain is probably too pig-headed, but Huckabee has shown himself remarkably adaptable.

And it’s also true that a McCain-Clinton race is a perfect foil for Ron Paul, if he does make his rumored Third Party run – and is not scared off the immigration issue by the political correctness obviously endemic in the libertarian Establishment.

You have to marvel at the role luck plays in politics. Why didn’t two War On Terror types (McCain and Giuliani) take each other out rather than two Amnesty opponents (Romney and Huckabee)? (Why, for that matter, did Bush and not Reagan have political sons?)

And you have to acknowledge that the MSM’s ability to create celebrity candidates is still a force. But the internet has not yet begun to fight.

I stick with my conclusion yesterday: the big news is that immigration is showing up as an issue in opinion polls. Reluctantly, but increasingly, politicians will have to navigate around it. Probably in the end a new party will arise to deal with it.

Sadly, The Ron Paul rEVOLution is Dead

Super Tuesday was a very interesting night. Mike Huckabee suprised everyone by winning West Virginia and by picking up a couple of states in the south.

The votes were all counted. The people have spoken.

Barack Obama made gains across the US. Hillary Clinton won the “prized” state of California as did McCain. Mitt Romney did not expect Mike Huckabee to do so well as he did tonight. Romney will probably have to think about what direction he needs to take his campaign.

Unfortunately for Ron Paul, tonight was not his night, in spite of how well he did placing second in the Nevada and Lousiana caucuses, he did not win in a single state.

Ron Paul is/was the dark horse internet hyped candidate of 2008. He seems to be out of luck now as the majority of delegates now are to be awarded to the other candidates.

Mike Gravel is still in the race, but his support is dwindling. It doesn’t seem that Ron Paul will get a chance to win the Republican nomination. The reality is if Ron Paul doesn’t have a chance at the Republican nomination for president, he more then likely won’t have a chance at the nomination for vice-president.

Ron Paul scored an average of 4 percent support nationwide, as a comparison in 1988 in the general election he polled at less then 1 percent nationwide, without the support of the todays techonology. It now seems without doubt that the “Ron Paul Revolution” is dead or has run out of steam.

What will the Ron Paul campaign do? What other tricks does it have up it sleeves? It has already used the unique idea of utilizing a blimp. It has already utilized the idea of using aerial forces to spread the message by flying around “blackout” areas where he was not allowed to debate. It has already used the viral force of the internet all to no avail.

To use a Biblical analogy, Saul slew his thousands, but David slew his tens of thousands.

Will Ron Paul’s current support dwindle in the light of the recent election numbers? What will his next steps be? We can only watch the news or check up online to see what will happen next.

Ron Paul has already said that he was 99.9% sure that he would not run as an Independent or as a Libertarian.

As a prediction, more then likely the internet and various media sources across the world will now focus their eyes on Obama, Clinton, McCain and Huckabee however fair or unfair as it may be, as the former candidates of 2008, and 2007 become relics of Alexa’s Wayback Machine and food for Google’s web crawling spiders.

Mitt Romney, Mike Gravel, and Ron Paul will have to put up one major fight in order to win any type of nomination. All in the short term seems unlikely.

Ron Paul is a good man, as are the other candidates, but the world is an unfair place to live.

In spite of negative things occurring in various campaigns, hopefully positive things will await us in the future. God help us.

Is Hillary the Best Option for Immigration Patriots?

Mickey’s Single Issue Voter’s Guide: Suppose you were a single issue voter, and your single issue was immigration. Specifically, you were opposed to legislation that combines some form of amnesty (legalization of existing illegal immigrants) with tougher border enforcement. If so, you would probably be pretty depressed right now–three of the four leading presidential candidates explicitly favor such “comprehensive” reform. The fourth, Mitt Romney is the least likely to win. And even he’s suspected of being a closet comprehensivist.

But you still have to vote. Before you did, you’d want to ask: Which of the three pro-legalization candidates is least likely to accomplish their legislative goal? When you think about it this way, a clear and somewhat surprising ranking of top three emerges.

____________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________

1) Hillary Clinton would probably be the best president for anti-comprehensivists. She’s cautious. She’s been burned by GOP opposition before (to her 1994 health plan). Is she really going attempt both health care reform and immigration reform in her first two years? Remember, Rahm Emmanuel’s swing-state Democratic congressmen typically ran tough-on-illegals campaigns. They’re squeamish about voting for “amnesty.” If Hillary is president (meaning John McCain isn’t president) the Republicans are likely to unite against a Democratic legalization plan. Meanwhile, Hillary’s political adviser James Carville is on record suggesting that legalization, like welfare, is a potential election-loser. Hillary suppporter Paul Krugman seems one of those remaining economists who actually believe in supply and demand–i.e., that an increase in the supply of immigrant labor can drive down unskilled wages. And Hillary herself has made anti-illegals noises in the past, including reversing her endorsement of Gov. Spitzer’s drivers license plan.

2) Barack Obama, on the other hand, may actually believe his standard-left immigration positons. He’s shown an ability to bridge the partisan divide and get things done. All deeply troubling, in this case.. But at least he too would have a hard time getting both a health care plan and immigration legislation through Congress against opposition from Republicans (McCain having lost).

3) President McCain would seem like a replay of George W. Bush. Bush couldn’t get his “comprehensive” immigration plan through, even with a Democratic Congress. What would be different with McCain? Quite a bit. a) McCain’s likely to be more popular, at least if Iraq continues to improve; b) The Democrats are likely to have bigger Congressional majorities; c) McCain might be able to claim voter validation of his long-standing pro-legalization views. Certainly the Republicans wouldn’t be united against a McCain “comprehensive” bill. Unlike Clinton and Obama, McCain doesn’t have ambitious New Dealish health legislation that would compete for his and Congress’ time and energy.

True, it would still be difficult to pass a McCainish immigration plan–you can imagine the Democrats splitting just like Republicans when faced with something that might actually become law. McCain would have campaigned on his pledge to secure the borders–his current plan for a quickie assurance by “border state” governors might be too transparent a ploy (especially if the press was reporting a continuing flow of illegals). Nevertheless,,McCain seems clearly the worst of the three possibilities, from an anti-comprehensivist perspective.

I’m not saying voters should be single-issue voters. I’m not saying I’m going to vote for Hillary. I’m just saying …

P.S.: OK,, I’m not just just saying. If I thought either Clinton or Obama would do a much better job on health care, that would be one thing. But both seem well-positioned to actually pass some big, broad health plan. An immigration plan, on the other hand, seems much iffier. It could pass or fail depending on who’s president. And, unlike a health care plan, an immigration legalization bill is likely to have large, irreversible consequences. Misconceived health plans can be altered or repealed (remember “catastrophic insurance”?). But if a misconceived immigration amnesty attracts millions of new illegal entrants who then have to be given citizenship–on top of the new citizens created by the amnesty itself–it won’t just lower unskilled wages etc. It will profoundly alter the very electorate that will have to consider any future change of course.

In this context, single-issue voting could be a highly responsible course.

Vote Hillary. She won’t get it done!

Some Republicans don’t like the senator’s moderate record on illegal immigration.

By Ralph Vartabedian and Nicholas Riccardi

PHOENIX — — Sen. John McCain’s run for the presidency is gaining momentum across the nation, but the campaign is meeting disapproval in one of the most unlikely places: his home turf in Arizona.

In a straw poll vote two weeks ago of 721 Republican leaders in Maricopa County, the major population center of the state, a majority ranked McCain as the least acceptable Republican candidate for president.

The reason, Republicans say, is his record on illegal immigration.

“We feel betrayed and let down by our senior senator,” said Russell Pearce, a Republican representative in the statehouse who has written a number of tough laws against illegal immigrants. “I will not support a candidate, I don’t care how many medals he has on his chest, when he won’t do the right thing for America.”

The anger grows out of McCain’s role since at least 2006 as the prime Republican leader of a comprehensive immigration legislation that would have given the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. a path toward citizenship.

Pearce and many other Republicans here call that path an amnesty that will encourage more illegal immigration and are passing state laws that are at odds with McCain’s view.

McCain, first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, remains popular among Arizona voters and is expected win the primary here Tuesday. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a senior policy advisor to McCain’s campaign, was not aware of the Maricopa County straw poll but said it was not representative of McCain’s support among rank-and-file conservatives.

“We believe the senator can not only get the nomination, but all the polls show that he can win the presidency against any of the Democratic candidates,” Holtz-Eakin said.

Indeed, illegal immigration was a hot issue a year ago but has cooled considerably, and McCain has skillfully avoided the subject as much as possible. A search of about 250 news releases issued by McCain since January found few, if any, direct references to immigration.

But others are not so quick to count out potential voter sentiment on immigration. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), who dropped out of the Republican presidential race, said McCain’s record on the issue would eventually damage his campaign.

“It is an incredibly dangerous position for him to be in,” Tancredo said. “McCain has yet to win a primary with a majority of the Republicans voting for him. What happens when it is just him and a Democrat? How many Republicans will not vote, or write in a name?”

McCain has backed off from the comprehensive immigration reform he wrote with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) in 2006, Holtz-Eakin said. Instead, McCain now advocates spending $3 billion to upgrade border security, in addition to billions of dollars already committed, to stop illegal immigration — before deciding how to deal with those already in the country.

“He doesn’t see a practical way to deport 12 million people,” Holtz-Eakin said. At a Republican debate when immigration came up, McCain said, “We are all God’s children.”

Randy Pullen, an anti-immigration activist who was elected chairman of Arizona’s Republican Party last year, predicted the party will coalesce around McCain if he wins the nomination. But until then, many leaders are tepid in their support.

“There are a lot of passionate conservatives who don’t believe in what Sen. McCain believes in,” he said. Pullen is among those who have criticized McCain’s position on immigration, but it goes beyond a single issue. He cited the senator’s vote against President Bush’s tax cuts and backing of campaign finance reform.

Many Arizona conservatives think illegal immigrants are ruining their state, driving up crime and imposing billions of dollars in service costs. Arizona has an estimated half-million illegal immigrants, representing about 10% of the state’s population, among the highest proportions in the nation.

The conservatives say it is not necessary to round up illegal immigrants — they argue that many will leave voluntarily if they face greater difficulties and legal obstacles. It is an approach that appears directly opposite of McCain’s sensibilities and views.

A law written by Pearce would levy big fines on employers who hire illegal immigrants and will close companies that repeatedly violate the law. The bill was passed with overwhelming support in the Legislature, including a big chunk of the Democrats, and signed by Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano.

“We don’t need to round up illegal immigrants,” Pearce said. “Just enforce the laws. At traffic stops, if the driver doesn’t have a driver’s license, any identification and doesn’t speak English, it is common sense that something is wrong.”

The law is under attack by both the business community and civil liberties groups, and legal challenges are preventing it from going until effect until March 1. Still, it may already be having its desired effect. Demand for social services is down, and school enrollments in Latino neighborhoods are unexpectedly dropping. Officials in other states and Mexico have complained that immigrants are streaming out of Arizona, creating demands for services elsewhere.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, an elected Republican, has told his officers to enforce immigration laws in the course of routine police activity and has coordinated the roles of 160 deputies with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

“We have made a lot of arrests,” Arpaio said. “We have 10,000 people [illegal immigrants] in jail and in tent cities.”

Arpaio, a nationally known figure in law enforcement, is an honorary campaign chairman for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. “I like Mitt’s position on immigration, not the senator’s,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Legislature is weighing a law that would compel local police departments to follow Arpaio’s lead, ending what conservatives call “sanctuary” policies that allow illegal immigrants to avoid deportation.

The anti-immigration sentiment is far from what many moderate Republicans in Arizona and across the nation believe is reasonable.

“There is a tremendous amount of misinformation out there, and it is intentional,” said George Gascon, chief of the Mesa Police Department and a former senior officer in Los Angeles Police Department.

Gascon, who describes himself as a longtime Republican, cited a list of academic studies that showed immigrants commit proportionally fewer crimes than native-born Americans. He added that the number of illegal immigrants in state jails was close to their 10% proportion of the general population, despite vastly inflated claims to the contrary.

The new law is also scaring businesses. Sheridan Bailey, who runs a steel fabrication business in Phoenix, has 100 employees, many of them foreign-born. He worries about his potential vulnerability if even one of them is residing here illegally.

“It’s a one-guillotine-fits-all solution,” he said.

Paul Charlton, a former U.S. attorney who is helping raise funds for McCain, is among those who say the senator is not out of sync with Arizonans.

“The mainstream Repub- lican view in Arizona is close to McCain’s, but the people who speak the loudest have taken control of the agenda,” he said.

“There are some voters who will not vote for McCain because of his views on immigration,” Charlton added, “but not enough to affect the election.

John McCain: George Soros’ Useful Idiot?

“The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States.” George Soros

https://i0.wp.com/farm3.static.flickr.com/2166/1521514268_665388b999_o.jpg

Many believe George Soros is out to destroy America’s Constitution and sovereignty. From the anti-2nd amendment gun control group, Americans for Gun Safety to the anti-free speech McCain-Feingold Finance Reform Act, John McCain has been carrying out marching orders from Soros, enriching his Reform Institute and his campaign coffers while riding Soros’ coattails to national prominence as the mainstream media darling, ‘Maverick’ Senator McCain.

The ambitious Soros has a goal of rewriting the United States Constitution by the year 2020. He has funded efforts for a world-wide gun ban instituted through the United Nations as well as borderless nations, legalizing illicit drugs and his ultimate goal of a world government controlled by the U.N. Does John McCain share his lofty goals?

The McCain-Feingold legislation was an idea devised by the brilliant Mr. Soros. The Act stopped ‘soft’ money contributions to the Democrat and Republican parties, as well as putting limits on free speech by not permitting a candidate’s name to be used in ads 60 days prior to general elections and 30 days prior to primary elections. This Act bankrupted the Democratic Party because, unlike the Republican Party, the Democratic Party was primarily financed by ‘soft’ money donations from large groups such as Unions. The Republican Party, by contrast, receives most of its funds from individuals in the form of ‘hard’ money, small donations.

George Soros had discovered a way to make the Democrat Party beholden to him through an obvious loophole (large enough to drive a Mexican truck through) in the law, establishing what is known as 527 groups, after the section in the tax code. With Democratic donations dried up after the passage of McCain-Feingold, George Soros and his billionaire buddies founded several 527s privately and stealthily. 527s are unlimited in terms of contributions, unregulated, and can be used to run politic ads and fund other activities related to issues. Therein lies its brilliance. It could be said that George Soros now owns the Democratic Party because he controls the money they once received through big donor donations. And, thus he controls the agenda. He has established what is now considered the ‘Shadow Party’, a party within the Democrat Party.

When Soros was looking for a vehicle to bring this scheme to fruition, who was standing with his hand extended? Senator John McCain. And, richly rewarded he was. During the 2000 political season John McCain and Russ Feingold attended the two so-called ‘Shadow Conventions’ that Soros sponsored. McCain, who is desperately attempting to retain his false title of ‘Republican’, was the keynote speaker at the ultra-liberal Philadelphia convention while Feingold spoke at the Los Angeles event. Low and behold, in 2001, John McCain founded the Reform Institute largely funded by a huge donation from George Soros’ Open Society Institute and his Tides Foundation.

The Reform Institute from which John McCain resigned in 2005, no doubt to pursue his run for the presidency, is dedicated to advancing the Soros agenda despised by most Conservatives and many mainstream Americans. Their goals include amnesty, a borderless North America dissolving a sovereign USA, open Republican primaries which would have Democrats and Independents determining the Republican Presidential Candidate, thereby putting the final nail in the Republican Party’s coffin. For examples of how the institute feels regarding mass amnesty of illegal aliens in the United States, look at the student art work awarded for mocking the border fence, posted by Michelle Malkin, who has shined light on the Soros/McCain connection over the past week.

Most damning is McCain’s Reform Institute fellow, Juan Hernandez, who is an open-border lobbyist and former Mexican government cabinet member. Working for Presidente Vicente Fox, he was the Director of the Office of Mexicans Living Abroad. He is described in his bio at McCain’s Reform Institute as being an American, but actually has dual citizenship with Mexico and has feverishly lobbied for amnesty. Juan Hernandez with his extremist views on illegal immigration and open borders, is also the John McCain presidential campaign’s Hispanic Outreach Director. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to see that McCain has never veered off of his path to amnesty.

America’s 2nd Amendment is on the McCain-Soros’ chopping block. According to an interesting observation posted on the blog, The Provocateur, Soros’ definition of a terrorist rarely strays beyond considering the word semantically equivalent to any “American citizen who owns a firearm” . Soros is funding many, if not all, anti-gun groups in the United States and throughout the world via his financial support of anti-gun bans which he initiates in the United Nations. Why? According to Judge Napolitano, in his book Constitutional Chaos, the original intent of the 2nd amendment was not only to protect the citizenry from intruders and other criminals but more importantly from the government itself. Napolitano also points out that every government takeover has been the result of a disarmed citizenry.

A little known fact is that McCain has quietly endorsed George Soros’ anti-2nd amendment gun control position, going so far as to do an advertisement for the Soros funded pro-gun control group, Americans for Gun Safety. Campaigning against gun shows to promote the McCain-Lieberman Gun Show Control Bill of 2004, the advertisement carried multiple misleading statements as explained by Dave Kopel writing in the National Review Online in an article titled, “Gun Games: Truth is a casuality of the anti-gun cause.” The McCain-Lieberman Gun Show Law would have greatly expanded the Brady Bill and the Bureau of Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) while continuing to fund new gun control laws. Important to note is that the highly respected Gun Owners of America has been exposing McCain’s anti-2nd Amendment agenda for quite some time. Read GOA’s Take on John McCain and John McCain’s Gun Control Problem. Prior to 2000, the beginning of his relationship with Soros, McCain went from being a supporter of the 2nd Amendment to being a lead sponsor of anti-gun bills.

McCain has consistently taken positions against Republicans and Conservatives in Congress, often flip-flopping on formerly Conservative positions. Do Republicans want their Presidential nominee, this so-called ‘Maverick’ McCain, who is beholden to the likes of the George Soros and what many believe is a campaign against our US Constitution and sovereignty?
